History
Located on Mexico's Pacific coast in the state of Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta was officially founded on December 12, 1851, by Guadalupe Sánchez Torres, his wife, and several companions. Its early economy was closely tied to the region's silver-mining communities in the Sierra Madre mountains, as the settlement served as a coastal shipping point for supplies and goods, including salt used in mining operations. Â
Today, Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico's most popular beach destinations, known for its golden beaches, Pacific Ocean sunsets, vibrant nightlife, and traditional Mexican charm. Visitors can explore Los Arcos Marine Park, famous for its dramatic rock formations and snorkelling opportunities, or take boat excursions around Banderas Bay. Combining its historic coastal character with modern resorts, restaurants, outdoor adventures, and lively cultural experiences, Puerto Vallarta has become a leading destination for both Mexican and international travellers.
Malecón Boardwalk
The Malecón Boardwalk is one of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico’s most popular attractions, stretching along the waterfront with beautiful views of Banderas Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can stroll along the seaside promenade, admire colourful sculptures, watch street performers, and explore local shops, restaurants, and cafés. The boardwalk is especially lively around sunset, offering a vibrant atmosphere and plenty of opportunities for photos. With its blend of ocean views, art, and local culture, the Malecón is a must-visit destination in Puerto Vallarta.
